Brooklyn Botanic Gardens 2003
JUAN MENDOZA
I went to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and saw different types of plants, trees and landscapes. I learned that there are different plants in different countries with different climates. I also learned that trees can live over 150 years!
I walked in the green garden and admired the flowers: their colors, their sizes, their scents. It was really fun sharing the pleasures of nature and practicing English at the same time. I enjoyed learning in the outdoors as a group. Everybody was talking; everybody was happy; everybody wanted to have their picture taken.
VELYNE RAYMOND
I went to the Brooklyn Botanic Garden and started at the gate on Empire Boulevard. I explored the Discovery Garden for children. I walked through the Butterfly Bushes and the Empress trees surprised me with their beautiful purple color. For the first time, I saw tulips of many different colors together.
Then, we crossed a little bridge and Teacher Sophie told us: "Don't drink the water, don't jump, don't push Miss Pauline (our beloved volunteer) in the water!" I learned that the Brooklyn Botanic Garden was founded in 1910. I observed the garden workers and noticed they were very polite.
I appreciated everything you did for us, Teacher Sophie: you qualify for your job! Thank you again.
DIANA SADDLER
At the Botanic Garden, I saw aquatic plants, desert plants, vegetables, beautiful big trees, big goldfish, and a duck.
I learned that the Children's Garden was founded in 1914. There, children have been growing vegetables, flowers, and herbs, and learning first-hand about gardening. I also learned that bonsai trees (from China, Japan, Korea) were used as decoration, and that they could grow older than normal-sized trees.
It was fun to look at the desert plants. Julio kept saying all plants were from Mexico (his country)! We all laughed a lot.
YOLENE SAINT LOUIS
At the Botanic Garden, we learned about many plants at the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden. I saw coffee and cacao trees at the Steinhardt Conservatory.
I enjoyed exploring the interactive Discovery Garden, and walked through the beautiful garden. I had many pictures taken of myself, my classmates, and my teacher Sophie.
BIBIANE PIERRE LOUIS
My teacher Sophie, my classmates and I took the bus 41 on Flatbush Avenue to the Botanic Garden.
I saw a wide variety of oriental flowers. Different kinds of medicinal, culinary, fragrant and ornamental herbs were exhibited. We explored the Japanese Hill-and-Pond Garden, the Herb Garden, the Terrace Café, and the Glass houses of the Steinhardt Conservatory. In the Bonsai Museum of the Conservatory, I saw a mini-Juniper tree that was 125 years old.
I posed on many pictures with my classmates and my teacher Sophie. I ate an apple and some peanuts. I spoke in English with my teacher and classmates.
On my way out of the Botanic Garden, I saw an elegant building: My teacher told me it was the Brooklyn Museum of Art.
LUZ ZAYAS
It was my second time visiting the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. I saw beautiful flowers and trees. Many of them were from China. I learned that bonsai trees come from Japan. They are very tiny and sometimes grow very old.
We walked and observed everything together. It was a wonderful and gorgeous trip. I went to the gift store and bought a plant and a poster of the huge weeping willow in the garden to remember our wonderful trip.
REGINALD AIME
In the Brooklyn Botanic Garden, I walked through the Discovery Garden, the Children's Garden, the Butterfly Bushes, the Steinhardt Conservatory, and so on. I saw bonsai trees for the first time and was very surprised at how small they were.
At the Lily Pool Terrace, I saw small goldfish in the pond. The Annual Border flowers were very bright and nice. Some people were taking pictures and I had my first picture taken with Miss Pauline at the Visitor Center. We took a group picture at the Monocot Border. Then, we walked by cherry trees at the Cherry Esplanade. We tried to always walk and stay together as a group.
After that, we all went home. It was a beautiful Tuesday!
FANFAN ENEL
I went to visit the Brooklyn Botanic Garden with my CAMBA class. We took a lot of great pictures. I was very happy to see trees that were 114 and 130 years old. We walked end-to-end through the Botanic Garden. It was a beautiful field trip and a wonderful lesson of natural history: I saw coffee trees, banana trees, bamboos, big fish in the ponds, and big birds beside the ponds. The beautiful trees had many different colors. I enjoyed learning new things in the Steinhardt Conservatory. Then we went to the gift shop and admired books, shirts, caps and plants.
We got in at the gate on Empire Boulevard, and after a 2-hour walk, we exited at the gate on Eastern Parkway. All the students were very happy to go on this trip. Thank you.
JULIO SOSA
The Botanic Garden is a beautiful spot to visit. I saw different kinds of plants from around the world. I also saw trees, plants, flowers, pools and red fish.
I walked through the gardens with my friends and we took many pictures. I saw trees that were over 100 years for the very first time.
I enjoyed the Botanic Garden so much that I hope to come and visit it again, once a month, with my family.
